Formerly known as Recipezaar, and originally as Cookpoint, Food.com was created in 1999 outside of Seattle, Washington by two ex-Microsoft technologists. What started as an idea to connect home cooks from all over the world has grown into a daily cooking community, featuring 500,000+ user-generated recipes, 125,000+ photos and millions of reviews.

In July 2014, Food.com launched their new mobile app of the same name to the iOS App Store. This top food & wine app features the site's immense library of 500,000+ recipes, and gives users the ultimate tool for meal planning, shopping organization and scoring grocery deals. The app allows users to search and save recipes in a custom recipe box, build organized shopping lists, and see what's on sale at local stores. Deal information is geo-fenced, giving users the ability to browse local circulars from within the app and see what's on sale in the context of their shopping lists.
